Happy New Year everyone!!
It was a pleasure working with everyone last year and building plans for the coming year. The Board of Directors and I have been working hard over the last few months deciding on which projects and priorities to work on in 2018. We received incredible feedback from our membership that was just so passionate and overwhelming--Thank You!!
Our goal this year is to take massive action!! We want to get out, meet our members personally, and bring passion projects to the forefront that you mentioned wanting to be a part of.
We are going to be focused on:
Building diversity in the Supply Chain
Bringing STEM programs to the schools
Working with Veterans to transition to civilian work
Helping local small businesses with supply chain and logistics challenges
Offering opportunities to increase your soft skill set
Networking and training events
Continuing to be the go-to organization for Supply Chain employment opportunities
We have the most passionate, vocal, and active membership in the country!! We want to engage everyone to continue building an organization that you are proud to be a part of, that you feel strongly about, and that gives back value to you and your community in a positive way!!
Everybody’s help will be needed to accomplish these exciting goals! We are inviting you to choose a passion project (even if it isn’t mentioned here). Bring it to us and let’s take action together. Each of us has something to bring to this organization and we are asking you to get involved. Our membership has energized the Board of Directors and me, and we’re looking forward to everything we can accomplish together in 2018!!
Thank you again for all that you do and for letting us be part of this incredible organization with you!!

New Bill Aims to Create More Jobs for Marylanders
A bill passed in the 2017 Maryland legislative session aims to give incentives and encourage manufacturers to create jobs in the areas of the state that need them most. Under the More Jobs for Marylanders Act of 2017, incentives are offered for 10 years for the creation of family-supporting wages and workforce development programs. The incentives include income tax credits, property tax credits, a sales tax refund and exemption from SDAT corporate filing fees. Statewide, manufacturers are eligible for income tax benefits.
Manufacturers located in jurisdictions with highest unemployment rates are provided increased benefits. More Jobs for Marylanders also would benefit manufacturing activities in all jurisdictions by allowing faster depreciation of new capital investments, thereby freeing up capital more rapidly for companies to hire new employees and reinvest in their business operations.
3-D Printer Produces Personalized Pills
Digital Trends reports that a new 3D printer aims to give pharmacies the ability to quickly and easily produce custom doses of drugs for patients, based on their specific needs. Instead of patients on lots of medication having to remember to take three of one pill, two of another and so on, they could instead receive their required doses in vastly simplified form. Unilever Will Use Blockchain to Ensure Fair Trade Tea
Reuters reports that Unilever will begin a one-year pilot project in Malawi to trace the exact origins of its tea: where and how it was made, whether organic soil was used and if the workers were treated fairly. The project will use blockchain, the technology behind the cryptocurrency bitcoin, to track supply chains for tea.
